He was born to Bhargava maharishi and his wife Kanakangi and was a lifeless lump of flesh with no arms and legs. Lord Sriman Narayana came with his consort and gave him a beautiful body and was blessed with an eye on right leg.

Later in his life Thirumazhisai Azhwar studied Buddhism, Jainism and other literature and started following Saivism. Lord Sriman Narayana used Peyazhwar to get Thirumazhisai Azhwar initiated into Vaishnavism . Thirumazhisai Azhwar then focused on Anthayyamithawam form Lord Sriman Narayana. He had composed two Prabhandhams namely Thiruchandaviruththam and Nanmugan Thiruvandhadhi.

The pasuram presented below is by Nammazhwar.

Nammazhwar was known by the name of Maran from childhood. He was different from other children and pretty abnormal in day-to-day activities and his parents gave him the name Maran, indicating that he was unique and different from the children of his age.  Nammazhwar's parents tried everything under their control to get the child back to normal and ultimately surrendered to Athinatha perumal in Thirukurugoor and left the child under his care. The child moved on its own from Athinathar sannathi into a Tamarind tree in the temple complex and stayed there for 16 long years almost immobile. There was big transformation in Maran at the age of 16.

Nammazhwar composed and sang four prabhandhams namely Thiru Viruththam, Thiruvasiriyam, Peria Thiruvandhadhi and Thiruvaaimozhi reflecting Rig, Yajur, Atharvana and Sama veda. These Divya Prabhandhams got the name Dravida Veda Sagaram because they were in Tamil and essence of corresponding Sanskrit Veda

In this Thiruvaaimozhi pasuram "
பேரே யுறைகின்ற பிரான் இன்று வந்து  " Nammazhwar says that he has decided to hold on
tightly to the Lord of Thirupper Nagar Divya Desam, who is none other than Lord Sriman Narayana still hungry even after swallowing seven seas, seven mountains and seven worlds and who came and entered his heart.

Periazhwar focused on Krishna and his pasurams to Lord Krishna.Even other Archaavatharams appeared as Lord Krishna to him. His entire Peria Thirumozhi is devoted to Krishnavatharam.

In this "

pasuram, PeriaAzhwar imagines himself to be Yashodha  in Gokulam and Lord of Thirupper Naagar to be Lord Krishna. The neighbouring women pour in complaints that Lord Krishna steals butter, broke pots etc... Yashodha wanted to catch him and punish him. So she invites him to come home to have food and starts singing his glory so as to attract him. Yasodha says " Oh! Lord with body in color of cloud. come here. You are the same Lord Sriman Narayana in Bhujanga Sayana Kolam in Thirupper Nagar which is surrounded by water, Please come and have food. Knowing Yasodha's intention, Lord Krishna enters the house saying that he had finished eating and pretens that he is feeling sleepy. But Yasodha intercepts and pick up child Krishna in her hands and woners how this boy has learnt all these tricksto escape punishment.

The pasuram presented below is by Thirumazhsai Azhwar. Thirumazhisai Azhwar is an amasam  of Sudharsan, the discus that Lord Sriman Narayana wields.  Thiumazhisai Azhwar had the grace of Lord Sriman Narayana and he was rescued twice.

In this Thirchanda Viruththam pasuam " நாகத் தணைக்குடந்தை வெஃகா திருவெவ்வுள்  " , Thirumazhisai Azhwar  performs Mangalasasanam to Lord of Thiruvanbil Divya Desam. Thiumazhisai Azhwar says  that Lord Srimana Narayana (Aathimoolam), who is recling on Adhisesha in the milky ocean also reclines on serpant bed ( Bhujanga Sayanam) in the Divya Desams of Thirukudanthai, Thiruvetka, Thiru Evvul, Thiruvarangam, Thirupper Nagar and Thiruvanbil. The same Lord also resides in the hearts of devotees.
