Divya Desa Mangalasasanam Thiru Nandhipura Vinnagaram - DD016 Thirumangai Azhwar Peria Thirumozhi 1438 (5.10.1)

Divya Desa Mangalasasanam
Thiru Nandhipura Vinnagaram - DD016
Thirumangai Azhwar Peria Thirumozhi 1438 (5.10.1)

Azhwars have done Mangalasasanam for some Divya Desams very elaborately. For example all 11 Azhwars have sung in praise of Srirangam( Divya Desam 1), Ten Azhwars have sung in praise of Thiruvengadam ( Divya Desam 75) and Thiruparkadal ( Divya Desam 107). Managasasanam to as many as 67 Divydesams  was done by one of the eleven Azhwars only

Mangalasasanam depending on how elaborate it is, covered the one or more of following aspects

  • Name of Divya desam directly or in a subtle way
  • Name of Emperuman directly or in a subtle way
  • Manobhavam of Azhwar who composed the pasuram
  • References to events , Leelas in Vibhava Avatars
  • References to Para, Vyuha and Antharyami forms of Sriman Narayana
  • References to 26 Thatwams ( Paramatma, Jeevatma, Moola Prakruthi, Mahaan, Ahankaaram, Manasu, Kaalam Five each of elements, attributes,  Indriyas and Senses)
  • Divya Desa Vimana, Pushkarini etc
  • Natural beauty of the Divya desam surroundings
The pasuram presented below by Thirumangai Azhwar (Parakalan)  is  the Sarngam (bow) amsam of Srimana Narayana. He holds the distinction of having sung the most number of pasurams than the rest of the Azhwars. Also Thirumangai Azhwar has performed Mangalasasanam at 86 Divya Desams, the maximum by any Azhwar.

In this Peria Thirumozhi Pasuram "தீதறுநி லத்தொடெரி காலினொடு நீர்க்கெழுவி சும்பு மவையாய்,   " , Thirumangai Azhwar performs mangalasasanam to the Lord of Thiru Nandhipura Vinnanagaram. He pays glowing tribute to the Lord and says" Oh Lord ypu are the Antharyami in all all five elements namely blemishless Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Sky. You are the director and controller of blemishless mind, good sleep and death. Being so powerful and yet pretented as if he was afraid of mother Yasodha's wrath. But at opportune moment you never lost an opportunity to break open pots to steal curd and gulp it. You are also the one who happily danced with pots filled with Curd and ghee on your head. Oh Broad breasted Lord of Thiru Nandhipura Vinnagaram and with full of grace". Thirumangai Azhwar advises his mind to reach out to the Lord of Thiru Nandhipura Vinnagaram.

Here is a presentation on Mangalasasanam to Lord of Thiru Nandhipura Vinnagaram (Nathan Kovil) through Thirumangai Azhwar's Peria Thirumozhi pasuram  "தீதறுநி லத்தொடெரி காலினொடு நீர்க்கெழுவி சும்பு மவையாய்,  "

The pasuram presented below is by Pillai Perumal Iyengar, who was a sishya of Paarasar Bhattar. Pillai Perumal Iyengar  had composed Ashta( eight) Prabhandhams. One of them is Notrettu Thiruppathi Andhadhi which had one pasuram each for each of the 108 Divya Desams.

In this Pasuram Perumal Pillai Iyengar performs Mangalasasanam to the Lord of Thiru Nandhipura Vinnagaram (Nathan Kovil).

Pillai Perumal Iyengar advises his mind not to pay attention to the ill-advice from the five senses as they are keen to engage and trick the mind to focus to the temporary bodily and other pleasures as the way to swarga lokam. Pillai Perumal Iyengar advises the mind to focus on the Divya Desam and The Lord of Thiru Nandhipura Vinnagaram, whose eyes resemble that of red lilies.

In this Peria Thirumozhi Pasuram "பைவிரியும் வரியரவில் படுகடலுள் துயிலமர்ந்த பண்பா. என்றும்,   " , Thirumangai Azhwar pays tribute to the
Bhagavathas of Thirucherai who regularly offer services
and prayers at the feet of the Lord of Thirucherai by controlling
their five senses and focusing on the Lord of Thirucherai.
Thirumangai Azhwar says that his heart and deep love are
reserved for these Bhagavathas. Thirumangai Azhwar mentions
that these Bhagavathas in their prayer describe the Lord of
Thirucherai as "You are the virtuous one relining on serpent bed
in the deep milky ocean. You are the one with body resembling
dark hued ble gem. Yor are Lord Krishna (மாயவன்). You also reside in the cool Thirucherai Divya Desam surrounded by lakes hosting blue lilies with bees hummimg all the time. " Thirumangai Azhwar knows that the Lord would be happier if His Adiyaars(Bhagavathas) are recognized and so he chooses to perform Mangalasasanam this way to Lor of Thirucherai.

Here is a presentation on Mangalasasanam to Lord of Thirucherai through Thirumangai Azhwar's Peria Thirumozhi pasuram  "பைவிரியும் வரியரவில் படுகடலுள் துயிலமர்ந்த பண்பா. என்றும்,  "

Instead reach the Lotus feet of the Purushothaman of Thirucherai with auspicious attributes and one who has abundant and limitless wealth and sing his glory."
