Nammazhwar lived for 32 years and spent his entire life under the shades of tamarind tree. It is said that Lord Rama had incarnated as Nammazhwar and Adhisesha who served Lord Rama as Lakshmana, provided the shelter for Nammazhwar in the form tamrind tree.
First 16 years there was no bodily movement in Nammazhwar and in the remaining 16 years he composed 4 prabhandhams reflecting the Rig, Yajur, Sama and Atharvana Vedas.

It is Srivaishanvite belief that 11 Azhwars are considered to part of Nammmazhwar's Thirumeni. The presentation below is dealing with that apect. When Someone says "Koil" it implies Srirangam Peria koil and when some one says "Azhwar" it implies Nammazhwar and Nammazhwar only. May be it is because all the Azhwars are intregrated conceptually into Nammazhwar, when Nathamuni requested for Thiruvoimozhi prabhandham, Nammazhwar gave the entire Nalayiram.
