Thousand names of Lord Narayana - Namam Aiyram Pathigam of Nachiar Thirumozhi

Thousand Names of Lord Narayana
Namam Aiyram Pathigam Nachiar Thirumozhi
-------------------------------------------------------------

In this pathigam Andal talks about the efforts of hers and her friends in building a sand castle in Panguni Month to Please Kama Devan and Leela of Lord Krishna playing spoiling sport trying  to break those castles with his hands and legs. Andal Pleads to Lord Krishna take into consideration the amount of effort they had put in to build those sand castles and request him not to spoil them. In order to plese Lord Krishna , Andal remembers  the important Names of Lord Narayana and Leelas during some of the major avatars.

The following are extracts from Nachiar Thirumozhi (514-523), Namama Ayiram Pathigam

Andal says " Oh Lord Narayan. You are the one bearing thousand names. You are the born as Lord Rama in human form hiding His divinity. You are the one playing the spoilt sport of damaging the sand castles built by Andal and her friends. You are the one who slept in the form of beautiful child on banyan leaf. You are the oldest murthi. You are the Hari who sleeps on deep milky ocean. You are the one who saved the elephant Gajendra from crocodile. You are the one who takes rest on milky ocean with beautiful waves.  You are the Pundaikaksha. You the Cunning Madhava and Kesava. You built a bridge across the sea. You are the one that conquered Ravana's Lanka. You are the one having a color of the waters of the ocean. You built the Sethu Bridge. You holding the fiery Wheel (Chakrayudham).  You measured the entire worlds with one feet.  You measured the upper worlds extending up to Paramapadam with another feet. "

Paamalaiyum Poo Maalaiyum பாமாலையும் பூமாலையும்

Paamalaiyum Poo Maalaiyum
பாமாலையும் பூமாலையும்
--------------------------------------------------

Andal had the unique privilege of offering garlands made of

flowers from Periazhwar's garden (Nandavanam) and

another garland made with richly,  Bakthi laden and

embedded with in-depth vedanthic philosophy. The latter

was Thirupppavai in Tamil langauge. This Tamil poem was

very dear to Bhagavat Ramanuja for its simplicity and its

richness in Philosophy. The discourse of this Divya

Prabhandham earned Bhagavtha Ramanuja the title

"Thiruppvai Jiyar", It is said that Bhagavath Ramanuja lost

himself dwelling on the meanings of Thiruppavai Pasurams,

that he fell at the feet of daughter of Hi Acharya Nambi

imagining her to be Andal while chanting the 18th

Thiruppavai Pasuram "Undu Madakalitrin"

Bhagavath Ramanuja fulfilled with wishes of Anadal as spelt out in Nachair Thirumozhi which is as follows

Bhagavtha Ramanuja offered 100 tadas of butter( Vennai) and Sweet Payasam( Akkarvadisil) to the Lord of Thirumaliruncholai. This particular act of Bhagavath Ramanauja resulted in a tittle of "Koil Annan" meaning elder brother of Andal and to justify that Andal got the the Vazhi Thirunamam lines "Perumbudur Munikku Pinnaanaal Vazhiye (பெரும்புதூர் மாமுனிக்குப் பின்னானாள் வாழியே)"

Seeing the pictures on Thiruvadipooram Utsavam in Triplicane from Swamins' Kanakaraj and Srinivasan Sampath inspired me to offer a small garland to Sri. Andal in the form of a song.
