When any one wants to know about a guru, he needs to be introduced by someone who had greater understanding about his work, teachings, glory etc. This time we learn about Kanchi Vardarajar's grace and help in clearing Bhagavath Ramanuja's doubts on the principles of Sri Vaishnavism which later helped Bhavath Ramanuaj to establish Visishtadwaitham and spread it.

One of the  three promises to Alavandar alias Yamunacharya, by Bhagavth Ramanuja was to teach Srivaishanava sampradayam and spread Vaishanvism. After Yamunacharya passed away, Bhagavat Ramanuja spent time reading literature on his own but needed guidance. He approaches Kanchpoornar to request Kanchi Vardar to bless him with required knowledge. Kanchi Perarulalan gave six axioms to Thirukachi Nambi for Bhagavath Ramanuja, which not only cleared Bhagavath Ramanuja's doubts but formed the foundation for Visishtadwaitham spearheaded by Bhagavath Ramanuja.

When any one wants to know about a guru, he needs to be introduced by someone who had greater understanding about his work, teachings, glory etc. This time we learn about Bhagavath Ramanuja's long term attachments to four main Divya Desams in Tamil Nadu

Sriranga mangala nidhim karuna nivasam
Sri Venkatadri shikaralaya kalamegam
Sri Hasthisaila sikarojwala parijatham
Srisannamami sirasa Yadhusaila deepam

At the end of Sandhya vandanam, the above sloka is chanted to remember and offer prayers to the deities of four Major Temples that Bhagavat Ramanuja was associated with, in many capacities. Each temple and Archavatara deity played a crucial role in the upbringing, shaping the role and life of Bhagavat Ramanuja.

The four temples and deities are Lord Ranganatha of  Sriranagam, Lord Srinivasa of Thiruvengadam ( Thiruppathi), Lord Varadaraja of Kanchi and and Lord SelvaNarayanan of Thirunarayanapuram(Melkote). These Temples are also called by the names Bhoga Mandapam, Pushpa Mandapam, Thyaga Mandapam ang Gyana Mandapam.

Thyaga Mandapam

Bhagavat Ramanuja was saved by Lord Varadaraja and was ordained to perform Theertha Kainkaryam. Lord Varadaraja also planted the seeds of Visistadwaitham in Bhagavat Ramanuja by clearing his doubts through his Guru Thiukachi Nambi.  Since Lord Vardaraja on request from Lord Ranganatha released Bhagavat Ramanuja for services at Thiruvarangam. This sacrifice of Lord Varadaraja earned the Kanchi temple the name Thyaga Mandapam.

Pushpa Mandapam

Later Bhagavat Ramanuja visited Thirumala Hills and organized the the daily routines and religious rites at the temple for Lord Srinivasa. He had also deputed his sisya Anandhazhwan to Thirumala to take care of Nandavanam and offer flower decorations to Lord Srinivasa on a daily basis. Hence Thiruvengam came to be known as Pushpa Mandapam.

Bhoga Mandapam

Just as Lord Sriman Narayana enjoys all facilities and luxury in Paramapadam, Lord Ranganatha also thrives in Bhoga at Thiruvarangam listening to Ekantha Veeenai in the early morning. Hence Srirangam temple is known by the name Bhoga Mandapam.

Gyana Mandapam

When Bhagavat Ramanuja had to escape from Chola Kingdom, he chose to settle down in Melkote, Mandya District in Mysore and spread Vaishnavism by inducting King Vishnu Vardan into Srivaishnavam and he took his help to build temples and Mutt.  Bhagavat Ramanuja made sure that Melkote has the pride of place in the Sri Vaishnava Sampradayam and got the name Gyana Mandapam.

Here is  song on Bhagavat Ramanuja connecting the four Mandapam.

When any one wants to know about a guru, he needs to be introduced by someone who had greater understanding abou his work, teachings, glory etc. This time we learn about the Bhagavath Ramanuja's Gurukkal.

Bhagavth Ramanuja strated his Gurukulam Under Yadava Prakasar. Bhagavth Ramanuja was brilliant and he leant vedic scriptures very fast and he even mastered the maenings. Bhagavth Ramanuja was not able to accept some of the explanations and meanings imparted by the Guru. The difference of opinion between him and the guru grew and Bhagavath Ramanuja became very popular. There was a plot to kill Bhagavth Ramanuja during a trip to Kasi but thanks to help of his cousin and the grace of Lord Vardaraja of Kanchi, Bhagavath Ramauja was saved and was ordained to perform Theertha Kainkaryam for Lord Vardaraja and under the tutelage of Thiukachchi Nambi ( Mahapurnar)

Coming under the fold of great Acharya depends on Purva Punya Palam. Bhagavath Ramanuja had the blessings of Nammazhwar, Nathamuni and Yamunacharya. All the three had a greater role in the fostering of this Jagathacharya. Yamunacharya had selected five Acharya to groom Bhagavath Ramanuja. Why five? The five were hand picked with a specific goal to focus one or two specific topic.  Yamaunacharya had great plans for Bhagavath Ramanuja. Bhagavath Ramanuja never gets to see Yamunacharya live. Yamunacharya's three fingers were folded when Bhagavath Ramanuja came to see the Guru before Anthim Samskar.

When Bhagavath Ramanuja saw these curled fingers, he was able to grasp the three important tasks the Yamunacharya wanted him to accomplish. The tasks were

  • The names of Parasara and Veda Vyasa, should be commemorated on the earth by giving it to a person worthy to bear it.
  • Organize to get a commentary written on Tiruvaymozhi

  • Compose a commentary on Upanishads, Vedanta Sutras and Bhagavad Gita

.
Once Bhagavath Ramanuja promised to fulfill these wishes of Yamunacharya, the three fingers straightened

Bhagavath Ramanuja accomplished these tasks during his life time.

When any one wants to know about a guru, he needs to be introduced by someone who had greater understanding abou his work, teachings, glory etc. This time we learn about the guru through Manavala Mamunigal.

1000 years back there was no registration of Births and deaths. The families to used to create horoscopes with the help of renowned astrolgers in the area. Manavala Mamunigal created an authentic birth certificate for Bhagavth Ramanuja through Upadesa Rathna Maalai. Manavala Mamunigal composed Upadesa Ratna Maalai to recognize the Birth star, location and the works of Sri Vaishnava Purvacharyars starting with Lord Ranganatha till Ramanuja.

In all three pasurams, Manavala Mamunigal pays tributes to the Thiruvathrai Star under which Ramanuja was born.

Here is presentation of three pasurams on Bhagavath Ramanuja from Upadesa Rathnamalai.

When any one wants to know about a guru, he needs to be introduced by someone who had greater understanding abou his work, teachings, glory etc. This time we learn about the guru through Dhati Panchakam.

Embar says "முப்புரிநூலொடு முன்கையிலேந்திய

முக்கோல் தன்னழகும்"when he described the physical

beauty of Bhagavath Ramanuja. Here he is referring to

Poonool( Yagnopavith) and thridhaNdam. This stothram

dwells on the role of thridhaNdam

Dhati means attack with a view to gain victory. Bhagavat Ramanuja led attacks( debates) on many Philosopies and established the supremacy of Visishtaadwaitham. This Stothram also emphasizes the role of Trithandam and the Sacred thread ( Yagnopaveetham in His Thirumeni) carried by Bhagavat Ramanuja.

The meaning of this Stothram is found in the link. Please click on the link.
