Divya Desa Mangalasasanam
Thiru Arimeya Vinnagaram DD029

Thirumangai Azhwar Peria Thirumozhi 1238 (3.10.1)

Azhwars have done Mangalasasanam for some Divya Desams very elaborately. For example all 11 Azhwars have sung in praise of Srirangam( Divya Desam 1), Ten Azhwars have sung in praise of Thiruvengadam ( Divya Desam 75) and Thiruparkadal ( Divya Desam 107). Managasasanam to as many as 67 Divydesams  was done by one of the eleven Azhwars only

Mangalasasanam depending on how elaborate it is, covered the one or more of following aspects

  • Name of Divya desam directly or in a subtle way
  • Name of Emperuman directly or in a subtle way
  • Manobhavam of Azhwar who composed the pasuram
  • References to events , Leelas in Vibhava Avatars
  • References to Para, Vyuha and Antharyami forms of Sriman Narayana
  • References to 26 Thatwams ( Paramatma, Jeevatma, Moola Prakruthi, Mahaan, Ahankaaram, Manasu, Kaalam Five each of elements, attributes,  Indriyas and Senses)
  • Divya Desa Vimana, Pushkarini etc
  • Natural beauty of the Divya desam surroundings
The pasuram presented below by Thirumangai Azhwar (Parakalan)  is  the Sarngam (bow) amsam of Srimana Narayana. He holds the distinction of having sung the most number of pasurams than the rest of the Azhwars. Also Thirumangai Azhwar has performed Mangalasasanam at 86 Divya Desams, the maximum by any Azhwar.

In this Pasuram "திருமடந்தை மண்மடந்தை யிருபாலும் திகழத் தீவினைகள் போயகல அடியவர்கட் கென்றும்", Thirumangai Azhwar offers Mangalasasanam to the Lord of Thiru Arimeya Vinnagaram Divya Desam. Thirumangai Azhwar says "Oh my Foolish mind. Please reach out to the Lotus feet of the Lord of the beautiful Thiru Arimeya Vinnagaram, which is served by famous Vedic scholars, enriched by varity of flowers such as Pandanus, red lillies and Lotus. The Lord of Thiru Arimeya Vinnagram  is the same Lord Sriman Narayana, who is surrounded by Sridevi Boodevi on both sides, who showers his grace such that no grave sins can come any where near his devotees, prostrated by devotees in all the seven worlds and whom Nithya Suris constantly medi tate and offer prayers via stotrams."

In this Pasuram "ஒருகுறளா யிருநிலம்மூ வடிமண் வேண்டி உலகனைத்து மீரடியா லொடுக்கி, ஒன்றும்", Thirumangai Azhwar offers Mangalasasanam to the Lord of Thiru Kazhi Cheerama Vinnagaram Divya Desam.  The Moolavar of this Divya Desam is Lord Trivikrama who came as Vamana ( as a Dwarf) and sought a gift and got  three feet of land from Mahabali.
