Poigai Azhwar,  with Earth, Ocean and Sun as tools lights the lamp to dispel the darkness  and offers Mudhal Thiruvandhadhi so that he can see and feel Sriman Narayana.  Bhuthathazhwar uses Love, Zeal, Friendhip,  focus on Bhagavath Vishayam as tools to light up Gyana Vilakku. Pei Azhwar by this time gets the benefit of seeing Sriman Narayan in Parmapadam and starts describing What he sees in Moodram Thiruvandhadhi.

Mudhal Azhwargal Vaazhi Thirunamam


Poigai Azhwar, Bhuthathazhwar and Pei Azhwar have been designated as Mudhal Azhwar, as these were the first three of the twelve Azhwars. They are considered as conch, mace and sword amsam of Sriman Narayana. Poigai Azhwar  appeared  from a lotus bud in a in a pond in tiruvehka,  Bhuthathazhwar appeared in kurukaththi flower at Thirukadal mallai ( Mahabalipuram).  Pei Azhwar appreared in  sevvalli (Red alli-lily) flower in a well at Adhikesava Preumal at Mylapore.

They all met in Thirukovilur on a rainy day and had to share a small space and stayed so close to each other and there was no space left for a fouth person. Each of the Azhwars felt the presence of fourth person moving amongst them in that cramped space. They realized that it was none other that Sriman Narayana and they had the vision of Sriman Narayana. Poigai Azhwar, Bhuthathazhwar and Peyazhwar out of love and Bakthi composed and chanted Mudhal, Irandam and Moondram Thiruvandhadhi respectively.
