Bheeshma Ekadasi - Birth of Vishnu Sahasranamam

Bheeshma Ekadasi
Birth of Vishnu Sahasranamam

Bheeshma was lying in the battlefied on a bed of arrows shot by Arjuna. The Pandavas reach out to him along with Lord Krishna. Out comes spontaneously from Bheesma's mouth , Vishnu Sahasranamam heaping praise on thousand names and form s of Maha Vishnu who is none other than Lord Sriman Narayana who has descended as Lord Krishna. Bheesma emphasizes the importance of Bakthi towards Lord Srimana Narayana and chanting of Vishnu Sahasranamam.

Lord Ranganatha is believed to the swayambu of Lord Sriman Narayana of Parama Padam. It is said that a parrot was repeating this sloka, leading to the discovery of Lord Ranganatha  and the subsequent bulding of the Srirangam temple by Chola King.

Here is a song on Lord Ranganatha for the Bheeshma Ekadasi occasion.
