Bhuthathazhwar's Irandaam Thiruvandhadhi (2251) Pasuram 7.10

Azhwars have done Managalasasanam for some Divya Desams very elaborately. For example all 11 Azhwars have sung in praise of Srirangam( Divya Desam 1), Ten Azhwars have sung in praise of Thiruvengadam ( Divya Desam 75) and Thiruparkadal ( Divya Desam 107). Managasasanam to as many as 67 Divydesams  was done by one of the eleven Azhwars only.

Mangalasasanam depending on how elaborate it is, covered the one or more of following aspects

  • 1  Name of Divya desam directly or in a subtle way

  • 2  Name of Emperuman directly or in a subtle way

  • 3  Manobhavam of Azhwar who composed the pasuram

  • 4  References to events , Leelas in Vibhava Avatars

  • 5  References to Para, Vyuha and Antharyami forms of  Sriman Narayana

  • 6  References to 26 Thatwams ( Paramatma, Jeevatma,  Moola Prakruthi, Mahaan, Ahankaaram, Manasu, Kaalam, Five each of elements, attributes,  Indriyas and Senses)

  • 7  Divya Desa Vimana, Pushkarini etc

  • 8   Natural beauty of the Divya desam surroundings

The pasuram presented below is by Bhoothathazhwar. Bhoothath Azhwar was found in a liquorice flower in Maamallapuram. He had profound knowledge of Lord Sriman Narayana's five forms of supreme, cosmic, incarnations, indweller and consecrated images(idols). He had composed 100 pasurams of Irandam Thiruvandhadhi

In this Pasuram "தமருள்ளம் தஞ்சை தலையரங்கம் தண்கால்", Thirumangai Azhwar offers Mangalasasanam to the Lords of Thiru Thajai, Thiru manikundram and Thiru Thanjayali Divya Desams. Thirumangai Azhwar says " Lord Sriman Narayana, who is capable of destroying enemies, has taken Archavatars and resides in The Divya Desams such as Thanjai Mamani Kovil, Thiruvarangam, Thiru thankaal,  Thiruvengadam,  Thirukkadan Mallai and Thirukkudanthai . I addition he resides in Thiruparkadal (Milky ocean) and in the Hearts of Devotees"

The pasuram presented below by Thirumangai Azhwar (Parakalan)  is  the Sarngam (bow) amsam of Srimana Narayana. He holds the distinction of having sung the most number of pasurams than the rest of the Azhwars. Also Thirumangai Azhwar has performed Mangalasasanam at 86 Divya Desams, the maximum by any Azhwar.

Per Request from Parasura Rishi, Lord Sriman Narayana demolished three demons Thanjagan, Thandagan and Tharakaasuran who were posing threats to Parasura Rishi and his yagna. Sriman Narayana has taken Archavatar of Neelamegha Perumal in Thiru Thanjai Divya Desam, Manikundra Perumal in Thiru Manikundram Divya Desam and Veera Narsimha Perumal in Thiru Thanjayali Divya Desam.

All thre Three Divya Desams are treated as one Divyadesam and Thirumangai and Peyazhwar have done Mangalasasanam to all three.

In this Pasuram "எம்பிரான், எந்தை, என்னுடைச் சுற்றம், எனக்கு
அரசு, என்னுடை வாழ்நாள்", Thirumangai Azhwar offers
Mangalasasanam to the Lords of Thiru Thajai,
Thiru manikundram and Thiru Thanjayali  Divya
Desams. Thirumnagai Azhwar addresses the
Bhagavathas filled with experiences being
associated and serving the Lords and says
"I bow to The Lord who is helful, The lord who is
our father, The Lord who is our relative, The Lord
who rules me, The Lord who is my life source,
The Lord who vanquished and killed demons
with arrows from his Sarngam (bow), The Lord
who has taken archavathar in Thanjai Maamani
Divya Desam. I have discovered the sweet name
o"Om Namo Narayana" which would help and
protect me just as He has showered His Bliss on
you."
