Saranagapani Temple, Thirukudanthai and Thiruvezhukurrirukkai prabhandham by Thirumangai Azhwar

Saranagapani Temple, Thirukudanthai and
Thiruvezhukurrirukkai prabhandham
by Thirumangai Azhwar

Karthigai star in Karthigai Month is fast approaching. Let us remember works of Thirumangai Azhwar who served the Archavatharam well by performing Mangalasasanam at 86 Divya Desams on his Adlama horse back.

Car festival is also held at Sri Saranagapani Temple, Thirukudanthai. But I am
referring to a different Temple car constructed by Thirumangai Azhwar for Sarangapani Perumal.
This is Thiruvezhukurrirukkai prabhandham composed in நிலைமண்டில ஆசிரியப்பா style.
Every line will have four சீர். This prabahndham has 46 lines. BTW Thirumangai Azhwar served
Lord Sarangapani by constructing a Physical Temple car too.

PS: I enjoyed reading an excellent article by Oppiliappan Koil Sri.VaradAchAri Sadagopan on the subject at http://paadhukasahasram.sadagopan.org/index.php/categories/doc_details/223-ss105-thiruvezhukurrirukkai

Full version in Santhai style

Kaisika Ekadasi in Srirangam - Pasurangal

Kaisika Ekadasi in Srirangam - Pasurangal

On Kaisika Ekadasi day Namperumal comes to Arjuna Mandapam. Here he is adorned with 365  Pachai (Green) silk robes to get rid of any inadequacies that might have crept in during the entire year. Then the Araiyars would present Thirumangai Azhwar's ten pasurams ( 9.6) and Nammazhwar's 11 Pasurams ( 5.5) with abhinayam and supported by instruments.

Then Archakar/Bhattar would read the Kaisika Mahatmiyam from Varahapuranam in the same style as Parasara Bhattar did long back. Then Namperumal goes to Chandana Mandapam where devotees offer so far unsused flowers, camphor etc.. This event is known as Karpoorapadi Sevai.

Here is presentation of pasurams by Nammazhwar and Thirumangai Azhwar.

Gita Jayanthi

                                Gita Jayanthi

Mokshada Ekadashi is observed on November 29th, 2017. Lord Krishna explained the significance of this Ekadasi to Yudhistira as narrated in  Brahmanda Purana stating that observing fast on this day destroys all sins. It is also believed that observing Mokshada Ekadasi will help dead forefathers to get to heaven from Hell, as per the advice of Parvata Muni.

Lord Krishna blessed Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna on Mokshada Ekadasi. It is celebrated as Gita Jayanthi.

In Chapter 10 Lord Krishna narrates a small segment of His Divine Glory ( Vibhuthi) to Arjuna.

Here is a presentation of the same. Please Click on the link below to see the video.

Kaisika Puranam By Parasara Bhattar

                  Kaisika Puranam By Parasara Bhattar

Kaisika Puranam narrates the Bakthi and faith of Nampaaduvaan

in Lord Narayana and his adherence to the Srivaishanavite

principles even though he was a chandala by birth. He was not

permitted to enter the Sri Vaishnava Nambi temple. So he chose to

go to temple in the early morning and sung his Kasika Pann(

Bairavi Ragam) from outside the temple.

Nambudavan was instrumental in transforming and liberating  a

vedic brahmin who became a Brahma Rakshasan due to  his own

evil acts and karma.

Sukla Paksh Ekadasi in the moth of Karthigai is the day Lord

Narayana wakes from his Yoga Nidrai. It is on this Day

Namabaduvan meets with Brahma Rashsa who is ready to devour

him. Namabaduvan promises to return back after his early morning

duty to Thirukrungudi Nambi. Brahama Rakshasa does not believe

him. Namabaduvan says he he will keep up his promise lest 18

types of sins will attach to him. After long deliberation

Namabaduvan was released to go.

After singing the glory of Lord Nambi through his Kaisika Pann,

he hurries towards the location of Brahama Rakshasa to keep up

his word. Lord Nambi in the disguise of an old man intercepts

Namabaduvan and tempts to run away from the Brahama

Rakshasa. But Namabaduvan is steadfast in keeping up his

promise and does not get tempted. When he returns to Brahama

Rakshasa, he changes his mind but requests the Namabaduvan to

gift the fruits of his  Kaisika Pann singing to Lord Nambi to relieve

him from the curse and obtain liberation.

Namabaduvan readily gifts his punya and liberates Brahma

Rakshasa from his curse, who was a brahmin by birth.

Namabaduvan’s life story is enacted as a drama at

Thirukkurungudi on Kaisika Ekadasi day.

Similarly in Srirangam Namabaduvan’s story is read before

Namperumal on Kaisika Ekadasi day.Parasara Bhattar has

composed this Kaisika Puranam based on the original version from

Varahapuranam,

It is very auspicious to hear, chant Kaisika Puranam on Kaisika

Ekadasi Day( 10th December, 2016)

See the presentation of Kaisika Puranam as composed by Parasara

Bhattar below.
