Sri Bhagavat Ramanuja Suprabatham

Chanting Suprabatham to wake up Vibhava and Archavathar is in vogue since Ramaavathar days in Treta Yuga.. Sage Viswamitra  took Rama and Lakshmana to the forest to help protect his Yaga from demons. In the mornings Sage Viswamitra used to sing suprabatham to wake up Rama to get ready for his duty of protecting Viswamitra's yaga.


Kausalya Supraja Rama ,poorva sandhya pravarthathe, 
Uthishta nara Saardhoola , karthavyam daivam aahneekam 

Manavala Mamunigal commanded one of his Ashtathigajangal, Sri

 Prathivathi Bhayangaram Annangrachariar of Kanchipuram to 

compose a suprabatham for Lord Venkatesa. Sri Annangrachariar
   
incuded the above two lines to start the Sri Venkatesa 

Suprabatham. Late Smt. M.S. Subbulakshmi popularized this

 Suprabatham with her sweet voice and Bhava. 

I am assuming ( I may be corrected) that the same Annangrachariar

composed Bhagavat Ramanujar Suprabatham presumably under

 instructions from Manavala Mamunigal.

I am not sure in which of the Bhagavat Ramanujar Sannthis this suprabatham is being chanted regularly.

This is a very meaningful sloka highlighting the glories Bhagavat Sri Ramanuja. Apart from Highlighting hsi connections with his five Gurus, His powers, Karunya, grace poise etc, the composer places a request to Sri Ramanuja to wake up as there are duties that await hism as daily Chores.

This is pretty similar to the way Andal was waking up her friends for Margazhi Nonbu.

The composer goes on to reminding Bhagavat Ramanuja as to how many are awaiting for him for his daily Kainkaryams, commandments, darshan etc.

1.) Lord of Hasthagiri is awaiting for Sri Ramanuja's seva of bringing water from the well
2.) Lord Ranganatha is awaiting for Sri Ramanuja's daily kainkaryams
3) Thiruvegamudaiyan is getting to ready to visit Bhagavat Ramanuja adorning the Sangu and Chakram given Sri Ramanuja
4) Thirukurungudi Nambi is awiting your Sri Bhasya discourse
5)  Kuresar is awaiting to take notes on Vedanthic Sutras
6)  Andhra Poornar is waiting with Padhukas for Bhagavat Ramanuja to go and bless Adiyaars
7) Sishyas are waiting with new Kashayam dress, Kamandalam with water and Tridhandam to be used by Bhagavat Ramanuja after bath
8) Srivaishanvas are waiting to have Bhagavat Ramanujs' darshan
9) People are Chanting Ashtaksharam, Dwayam, Chama slokam as thet await Bhagavat Ramnuja's arrival.
10) Srivaishnavas are chanting Prappna Gaythri, as they await Bhagavat Ramanuja.
11) It is time to get up and offer daily Kainkaryams to the lord of Thirunarayanapuram
12) Several Bhagavathas and 700 yathi are awating Bhagavat Ramanuja's arrival
13) You are the one that created Navarathana Malas namely Tri Gadyam, Vedantha Deepam, Vedhantha Saram, Vedhantha Sangraham, Nithyanushtanam, Sri Bhashyam, Gita Bhashyam, Please get up and start the daily Chores for loka Kshemam
14) Those who want to cross samsara sagaram are awiting to get blessed by your abhaya Hastham
15) Your sishyas are getting ready for bath in river kaveri. So please join them
16) Ramanuja !!! one  with noble qualities, One without any attachments, One who protects those surrendered to him, One who is embodiment of satva gunas, Bless us with eagerness to be serving you and participate in kainkaryams dedicated to Bhagavat Sri Ramanuja

Let us begin our journey towards 1st May 2017, by recalling his life events, teachings, achievements, glory and his contribution to Srivaishavam and Visishtadwaitham

When any one wants to know about a guru, he needs to be introduced by someone who had greater understanding about his work, teachings, glory etc. Let us spend time in learning  about Bhagavat Ramanuja  Thirumeni Darisanam

Adiyen got an opportunity to visit a number of temples where Bhagavat Sri Ramanuja was associated with during my trip to India. Due to His Kripa I visited following temples

• Sriperambudur ( Birthplace of Sri. Bhagavat Ramanuja
• Kanchipuram Varadarajar temple
• Thiruppathi, Thirumala 
• Thirukkurgur
• Thirukkurungudi
• Parthasarathi Kovil, Triplicane
• Sri Ranganathar Temple, Srirangam
• Thirunarayanapuram, Melkote
• Madhuranthakam

Dhati means attack with a view to gain victory. Bhagavat Ramanuja led attacks( debates) on 
many  Philosopies and established the supremacy of Visishtaadwaitham. This Stothram also 
emphasizes the role of Trithandam  and  the Sacred thread ( Yagnopaveetham in His Thirumeni)
 carried by Bhagavat Ramanuja. 

The first sloka narrates the several victories that Bhagavat Ramanaja scored over Bhuddhists,
Sarvakars Jainists and even non-beleivers with his Oratorical skills and depth of Vedhantic 
knowledge.  

The Second Stanza narrates the Power of Trithandam which symbolizes tava Thrayam and 
protects against advocacies from Bhudhists, Jaianists, Sarvakars and Non-Believers.

The Third stanza goes on to establish the power of Bhagavat Ramanuja's  Trithandam. It not 
only removes the ignorance of his followers but also aids in overcoming obastacles from other 
faiths and establishes the  supremacy of Sri vaishnavam. The Trithandam is capable of 
proecting fromthe evil effects of Kaliyuga

The fourh Stanza narrates the significance of Yagnopavitham (Poonal) of Bhagvat Ramanuja. 
The Yagnopaveetham is compared to Mangala sutra(Swayam Sriman Narayana) on the neck 
of Veda Matha. Bhagavat Ramnuja's yagnopaveetham serves like a rope to hold and reach 
His lotus feet. This yagnopaveetham acts like thread in a lamp enabling to glow and spread 
the light and remove darkeness of ignorance.The Yagnopaveetham acts like noose of Yama, 
protecting his followers. 

The final Stanza narratesthat like the female horse "Padapa" which destroys the universe 
during pralaya, Ramanuja's Trithandam does a similar function to destroy obstacles to Sri Vaishavism
and its followers. With the help of Lotus feet of Lord Ranganatha, Bhagavat Ramanuja won over   
enemies to Vishistadwaitham and showed the path to Moksham and the road to 
Paramapadam.

Today Thai Hastham Koorathazhwan's Thirunakshathiram day. Here is a small presentation for the occasion along with his Vazhi namam.
