Koodaarai Vellum

Koodaarai Vellum

Andal and Gopikas have been observing Nobu over 20+ days observing all the Nonbu Krama as laid down by the elders with out taking Molk, Ghee etc. Now that the Nonbu is about to be completed Andal and Gopikas are expecting gifts for the Bhagavaths who observed the Nonbu from Lord Krishna, Lord Krishana says that he was prepared to give the conch used in Pullaraiyan Kovil, the Drum used to announce and celebrate the victory over Ravana and his army, and the Parai used when as Trivikrama the upper and Lower words were measured with his Lotus feet, For Pallandu Goshti, Lord Krishna wants the Gopikas to use the Adiyars led by Andal's father Vishnu chittan, Nappnai for Kola Vilakku, Garuda for Kodi and Ananta as Vittanam.

Andal and Gopikas are happy with this declaration of Lord Krishna and take the gifts promised. They tell Lord Krishna that they would adorn themselves with ornaments: bracelets, shoulder ornaments, ear-studs, and rings, wear new clothes and be happy. After that they eat fat food with plenty of ghee such that it overflows through fore arm up to elbows, Andal Promises that Gopikas would be together sing Hos glory, enjoy His company and enjoy the food with all.

This pasuram always reminds me of Sarkarai Pongal at Parthasarhi Kovil with lots of Ghee, cashes and dried grapes.

Andal emphasizes importance of  community Sathsang for Nama Sankeerthanam which brings the concept of being together with collective prayers for the welfare of every one in the community.

Maale Manivanna

Maale Manivanna

Andal in this pasuram lists their long list of requirements from Lord Krishna for their Nonbu.

Andal describes Lord Krishna as "மாலே" implying one with infinite, care and affection for His devotees. Andal says that Lord Krishna  glows with  fascinating blue colour of Saphire and as one who was lying on the banyan leaf calmly during deluge (pralayam) and prays for His grace.
As for as accessories that she sought from Lord Krishna for the Nonbu includes

1) Conch similar to the milky white Sangu that he wields and which emanates sound that makes the entire Universe tremble
2) very Big drum(பறை)
3) Ghoshti that can recite Pallandu
4) Lighted  Lamps that that spread auspiciousness
5) His Flag
6) His canopy

Most important request was that Anda wanted Lord Krishna to bless the Gopikas to follow all traditions That have been followed by Purvacharyas and elders.

Oruththi Maganaai Piranthu

Oruththi Maganaai Piranthu

In his pasuram Andal spells our birth secret of Lord Krishna. Andal uses the word ஒருத்தி to refer to both Devaki and yashoda without naming them. More than their names, Andal 's focus is to bring out the fact that Lord Krishna grew up in one mother's (Devaki) womb to be born to her but he grew up in another mother's (Yashodha's) care at her home starting on the same night, after birth.

Lord Krishna had to be hidden from wicked Kamsa. Andal Says that Kamsa could not stand the fact that Lord Krishna escaped from the prison that he unsccessfully tried to harm Lord Krishna on many occasions but Lord Krishna came out unharmed on each occasion and instilled fear in Kamsa like having fire in the belly constantly.

Andal's says that though they came to lord Krishna to get the parai, but their real intention was to stay close to him sing the glory of Lord Krishna and his consort and earn His grace. Andal wants Lord Krishna to bless them to realize that wish, so that they can forget the sorrow and be happy in His company.

Thiruvengadam ennum Verpu(Hill)

Thiruvengadam ennum Verpu(Hill)

The residents of Gokulam were offering prayers to  Govardhana Hills  and Indra every year. One year on the advice of Lord Krishna who wanted to enact a leela, they gave up that ritual. This angered Indra and he ordered Varuna Bhagawan to to show no mercy on Gokulam residents. It rained cats and dogs and Gokula was flooded. The residents and Cattle had no place to escape the predicament. Lord Krishna came to the rescue of Gokula Residents. Lord Krishna lifted Govardhana Hills and held it as an umbrella with his little finger and protected the Gokulam residents for seven days.

It is belief that Govardhan Hills wanted to pay its debt to Lord Krishna and in Kaliyuga when he took Archavatar as Lord Srinivasa, Govardhana Hills became his bed and resting with a span of seven Hills (Seshadri, Neeladri, Garudadri, Anjanadri, Vrushabhadri, Narayanadri and Venkatadri). Lord Srinivasa's temple is located on top of Venkatadri Hill.

Sri Vedantha desikan has a pasuram dedicated to Lord Krishna and the Verpu (Hill)

Here is a video presentation of the Pasuram.

Tribute to Azhwar and Arulicheyal in one Pasuram by Vedantha Desikan

Tribute to Azhwar and Arulicheyal
in one Pasuram by Vedantha Desikan

In this pasuram Sri Vedantha Deskan recognizes 10 Azhwars and thier contribution in the form of Arulicheyal. I am not sure why the names of Andal and Madhurakavi Azhwar are missing here unless it hidden in the pasuram in an indirect way.

Andru Ivvulagam

Andru Ivvulagam

Andal In this pasuram pays glowing tributes to the valour, skill and fame of Vibhava Avatars of  Lord Vamana, Lord Rama and the feats of the Lord Krishna. Usage of the word "போற்றி" in the first six lines,  Andal worships Lord Krishna's feet( Thiruvadi) with which he measured the both upper and Lower words as Vamana, His valour that was displayed in conquering the Ravana, His fame he got by kicking Sakatasura, the feet with which He threw Vathsasura, His compassion for lifting Govardhna Hills and holding it like an umbrella and protected the people and cattle of Gokulam from torrential rain and finally ehe spear in His hand with which he won many enemies.

Andal says that they came to Lord Krishna just to serve Him and offer prayers to get the drum (Parai) from him.

Maari Malai Muzhinjil

Maari Malai

Now that Lord Krishna had listened to Andal and Gopikas wants to know the purpose of their visit and wants to know how he should make his appearance upon getting up. Andal wants lord Krishna to wake up like a majestic lion from sleep, shake its body so that the hair spreads out , stand up erect and walk out roaring majestically and ascend the throne and seated from there you review the aim and purpose of their visit.

Andal describes Lord Krishna as பூவைப்பூவண்ணா! commenting on His exquisite color.

Angann Maagynalaththarasar

Angann Maa

Lord Krishna inquires the purpose of their visit. Andal in this pasuram mentions "that just as several Kings, having given up their pride have lined up on His beside, We the Gopikas  have come to seek refuge in you yearning for your eye glance to fall on us. Wont Your Coral like eyes cast glance at us?. If only you choose to open your two eyes comparable to rising Sun and Moon and bless us, our curse would vanish."

Ettra Kalangal

Ettra Kalangal

Andal continues her  worship of Lord Krishna by heaping prarises on His glory. She describes him as son of Nandagoplan, proud owner of  healthy cows that give copious supply of rich milk such that the vessels used to collect the milk overflows quickly.

The terms எதிர்பொங்கி மீதளிப்ப and மாற்றாதே பால்சொரியும்  are superlative expressions of the cows that produce without regard to size of the vessel and ready to give milk even if the vessels were filled and overflowing to the ground. Such is the generosity of these cows and termed as வள்ளல் பெரும்பசுக்கள்.  Usage of அறிவுறாய் implies that Andal wants Lord Krishan to know that he is the son of a proud owner such cows. Lord Krisha does not get up dismissing that are many such households having such healthy cows.

Andal goes to describe him as one whos is very interested in protecting his devotees with the use of the term  ஊற்றமுடையாய்! . Now Andal describes Lord Krishna as பெரியாய்!  and உலகினில் தோற்றமாய் நின்ற சுடரே!  meaning
Lord Krishna has great qualities than entire the vedas can describe him and as one who stands as the Jyothi that created the entire Universe.

Finally Andal requests him to get up from the bed and help them conduct the nonbu as Nappinnai has already joined their group. Final weapon that Andal uses in this pasuram is that just as his enemies come and prostrate at his feet, all the Gopikas and herself attracted by His kalyana Gunas, have come to surrender at his feet and request Him to wake up.

With the usage of the the terms "ஊற்றமுடையாய்! பெரியாய்! உலகினில் தோற்றமாய் நின்ற சுடரே!" Andal implies that Lord Krishna is the same Sriman Narayana who makes himself avaible to devotees in the five forms of para, Vuyha, Vibhava, Archa and Antharyami.
