appreciate the nice attempt and enthu. couple of feedback - when he was thirumangai mannan, he did not do any mangalaasasam etc. he did when he became thirumangai azhwar. so may be the choice of names can be selected accordingly. lastly, azhwars always advocated prapathi maargam. so the word bhakti maargam may be confusing if not interpreted correctly. Extremely grateful for the feedback. I am happy that you have taken time to read through this. My knowledge about Alwars, AruliCheyal and the philosophical concepts is pretty limited.
Regarding Line "பெரிய கோயிலாம் திருவரங்கத்திற்கு நீள் மதில் எழுப்பிய திருமங்கை மன்னனனே" : Thirumangai Azhwar's previous experience in the role of Thirumangai Mannan became handy in raising and overseeing the construction of Neel Mathil ( Big wall) for Peria Koil. My understanding is that Nam Perumal got many things done from many adiyars and Nam Perumal used Thirumangai Azhwaar as an instrument to raise this wall. So I used Thirumangai Mannan in this context.
Regarding "மங்களாசாசனம் பாடிய திருமங்கை மன்னனனே" : Personal Transformation is the key in Thirumangai Azhwar's life history. His wife Kumudavalli was instrumental for his conversion to vaishnava. Kumudavalli also influenced him to commit to feed 1008 Vaishnavas every day for a year. When his wealth was spent on this, just to keep up and meet the expenses of feeding 1000 brahmins he resorted to highway robbery. Nam perumal out of HIS abundant compassion decides to transform him and offers him and consort asa prey to high way robbery and transforms him into a saint by initiating him on Ashtaksara. So he still was a Thirumangai mannan and a Kalvan till this incident and so his first managalsaasanam started there with வாடினேன் வாடி. So I was tempted to use திருமங்கை மன்னனனே.
All Azhwars, being amsam of Sriman Narayanan, they resorted to spread Bakthi Marga. Some Azhwars had "Bakthi" as part of their titles or names. With thier Bakthi they could dictate terms to Permal ( E.g Sonna Vannam Seitha Perumal). While they used Bkathi as a marga to spread vaishavisam and attai their own mukthi, they advised "prapathi maargam" for Ordinary mortals and our Acharyas who followed the Azhwars emphasized the same. The Line "பரமனை அடைய சரணாகதியே மார்கமென" indicates that.
Thanks for your comments. Really helpful to learn more from Dasans like you.
ran into this blog from facebook. nice effort to bring out the glories of AzhwAr/AchArya works.
Just clarifying a couple of things: * Our pUrvAchAryas have established that AzhwArs are mortal souls who were hand picked and blessed by srIman nArAyaNan to reform/uplift other jIvAthmAs. So, they are not perumAn amsam. Wherever it is said like perumAL amsam or his Ayudhams - they are done to glorify them only. * Our AzhwArs and AchAryas are called prapannars - fully situated in sharaNAgathi. Very simple - if you practise something but preach something else - that is called dis-honesty. Our AzhwArs/AchAryas were fully surrendered to emperumAn and had no attachment to any other upAyam (let it be karma, jnAna, bhakthi yOgams).
