72 Melakartha ragas in One song
--------------------------------------------
Maha Vaidyanatha Iyer's had composed 72-melaraagamaalika. In the anupallavi/caraNam, each line is composed in one of the 72 melakartas and includes the name of the raga in the line as well (in order!). Bharat Ratna (Late) Srimathi M.S.Subbulakshmi has rendered this song. I liked listening to this song to remember the raga. The song can be heard at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvyNgeyq9II
I present this as a tribute to the composer and of coure the queen of Carnatic Music, (Late) Srimathi M.S.Subbulakshmi
Also Srinivasa Gadhyam on the Lord of the seven Hills has a section that mentions all these rags too. In the slok it implies all these ragas assemble in Lord Srinivasa's abode, used by musicians to sing the glory of the Lord.. ReplyDeleteBrilliant. Only MS Amma could sing this.
ReplyDeleteThank you for bringing this to us with the Melakartha's names
Koteshwara Iyer ( around 1920s ) and Dr Balamurali KRISHNA are the other two. But compositions of Keerthana’s in each Janaka ragas. Dr Bala MURALI is said to be around 12 or 13 years old when he finished composing in all the Melakartha ragas.
