Adaikkala Paththu on Kanchi Perarulalan by Vedathantha Desikar

Adaikkala Paththu on Kanchi Perarulalan

Nammazhwar in the First Paththu (110) Pasurams devotes to Parathvam of Sriman Narayana. The first Pasuram "Uyarvara Uyarnalam Udaiyavan Evenavan" as explained by Sri Velukkudi Krishnan in a discourse on Thiruvoimozhi saram , refers to Kanchi Perarulalan (Sri Vardar of Kanchi). It is Kanchi Perarulalan who protected Bhagavath Ramanuja and also graced him with six commands via Thirukachchi Nambigal, which became the pillar of Visishtadwaitham, propagated by Bhagavath Ramauja. Taking cue from Nammazhwar and Bhagavath Ramanuja, Sri Vedantha Desikan chooses to surrender himself to Hastha giri Nathan. His Adaikkala Pathu ( 10 Verses) is a total surrender to Lord Varadaraja of Kanchi and is a great piece of literary work and spells out reason for his surrender and Sri Vedantha Desikan advises the Sri Vaishanavites to follow that.

  • Sri Vedanatha Desikan says he was directionless by not following the path of Bakathi and Devotion and drifted like a crow in his life and finally surrendered to Lord of Hasthigiri.
  • Why Kanchi Perarulalan was chosen by Sri. Vedanatha Desikan
  • Kanchi Varadarajar Temple is one the seven Temples that provide salavation through the deity presiding over the temple.
  • Lord of Hasthigiri, always seen with his consort goddess Lakshmi
  • Lord Vardaraja is the supreme Para Brahman,
  • Sri Vedanatha Desikan says he has understood the merit and worth of Lord Of hasthigiri and so he surrenders to him.
  • Sri Vedanatha Desikan understood the value, merit and goodness of Lord of Hasthigiri.
  • Kanchi Perarulalan Offers the choice between pleasures and salvation
  • Lord of Hasthigiri provides salvation to the crow, a Rakshasa, the king’s wife , his royal relations, Brahma and the devas
  • There is no greater form of prayer than a total surrender to Lord of Hasthigiri.
