Divya Desa Managalasasanam Thiruvarangam - DD001 Thirumangai Azhwar's Peria Thirumozhi (1379) Pasuram 5.4.2

Divya Desa Managalasasanam   Thiruvarangam - DD001  Thirumangai Azhwar's Peria Thirumozhi (1379)  Pasuram 5.4.2

Azhwars have done Managalasasanam for some Divya Desams very elaborately. For example all 11 Azhwars have sung in praise of Srirangam( Divya Desam 1), Ten Azhwars have sung in praise of Thiruvengadam ( Divya Desam 75) and Thiruparkadal ( Divya Desam 107). Managasasanam to as many as 67 Divydesams  was done by one of the eleven Azhwars only.
Mangalasasanam depending on how elaborate it is, covered the one or more of following aspects

  • 1      Name of Divya desam directly or in a subtle way

  • 2      Name of Emperuman directly or in a subtle way

  • 3     Manobhavam of Azhwar who composed the pasuram

  • 4      References to events , Leelas in Vibhava Avatars

  • 5     References to Para, Vyuha and Antharyami forms                    of  Sriman Narayana

  • 6      References to 26 Thatwams ( Paramatma, Jeevatma,               Moola Prakruthi, Mahaan, Ahankaaram, Manasu, Kaalam     Five each of elements, attributes,  Indriyas and Senses)

  • 7      Divya Desa Vimana, Pushkarini etc

  • 8      Natural beauty of the Divya desam surroundings
The pasuram presented below is by Thirumangai  Azhwar.  Thirumangai Azhwar (Parakalan)  is  the Sarngam (bow) amsam of Srimana Narayana. He holds the distinction of having sung the most number of pasurams than the rest of the Azhwars. Also Thirumangai Azhwar has performed Mangalasasanam at 86 Divya Desams, the maximum by any Azhwar.

Parakalan alias Thirumangai Mannan got a gift of town to manage, from the Chola King, for his valor He was happily carrying on. Sriman Narayana decides to play his Thiruvilayadal on Thirumangai Azhwar’e life and make him realize the purpose of his birth. He is made to meet Kumudavalli and married her, after getting samasrayanam done and committing to feed 1008 for a year.
Finding it difficult to mange finances for this kainkaryam, he decides to commit wayside robbery from the rich. Sriman Narayana and his consort appear as old rich couple and offer themselves, as a prey. Finding it impossible to move the bag of gold ornaments snatched from the old couple, Parakalan was perplexed and wants to know what magic spell the old man has cast that he was unable to move the baggage with gold ornaments.

Sriman Narayana decides that it was time to bring Parakalan to his fold and teaches him the Astakshara Manthram.  Parakalan realizes his folly and starts singing the Glory of Narayana. He visited 86 Divya Desams and Performed Mnagalsasanam

IN this Peria Thiumozhi pasuram " வையமுண் டாலிலை மேவு மாயன்மணி நீண்முடி  " , Thirumangai  Azhwar says Thennarangam is surrounded by flowing Kaveri river which looks colorful carrying flowers falling from the heads of women taking bath as well as sandle paste applied on their bodies. Thirumangai Azhwar says Thiruvarangam is the residence of the Lord who swallowed the seven worlds and lay on a fig leaf (ஆல் இலை )and the Lord who wears a long crown and reclining ona  hooded serpent.

Here is a presentaion on Thirumangai Azhwar's  Managalasaanam  to Lord Ranganatha through "
வையமுண் டாலிலை மேவு மாயன்மணி நீண்முடி  "Pasuram
