Divya Desa Mangalasasanam Thirukkannangudi - DD021 Thirumangai Azhwar Peria Thirumozhi 1758(9.2.1)

Divya Desa Mangalasasanam
Thirukkannangudi - DD021
Thirumangai Azhwar Peria Thirumozhi 1758(9.2.1)

Azhwars have done Mangalasasanam for some Divya Desams very elaborately. For example all 11 Azhwars have sung in praise of Srirangam( Divya Desam 1), Ten Azhwars have sung in praise of Thiruvengadam ( Divya Desam 75) and Thiruparkadal ( Divya Desam 107). Managasasanam to as many as 67 Divydesams  was done by one of the eleven Azhwars only

Mangalasasanam depending on how elaborate it is, covered the one or more of following aspects

  • Name of Divya desam directly or in a subtle way
  • Name of Emperuman directly or in a subtle way
  • Manobhavam of Azhwar who composed the pasuram
  • References to events , Leelas in Vibhava Avatars
  • References to Para, Vyuha and Antharyami forms of Sriman Narayana
  • References to 26 Thatwams ( Paramatma, Jeevatma, Moola Prakruthi, Mahaan, Ahankaaram, Manasu, Kaalam Five each of elements, attributes,  Indriyas and Senses)
  • Divya Desa Vimana, Pushkarini etc
  • Natural beauty of the Divya desam surroundings
The pasuram presented below by Thirumangai Azhwar (Parakalan)  is  the Sarngam (bow) amsam of Srimana Narayana. He holds the distinction of having sung the most number of pasurams than the rest of the Azhwars. Also Thirumangai Azhwar has performed Mangalasasanam at 86 Divya Desams, the maximum by any Azhwar.

In this pasuram  "பொன்னிவர் மேனி மரக
தத்தின் பொங்கிளஞ் சோதி", Thirumangai
Azhwar performs Mangalasasanam to the Lord
of Thiru Naagai Divya Desam. Thirumangai
Azhwar dons the role of Parankusa Nayaki.
Parankusa Nayaki is mesmerized by the beauty
of Soundharyaraja Perumal and gels her friend
that she missed a golden opportunity to enjoy
the beauty of the Lord of Thiru Naagai.
Parankusa Nayaki  says "Soundharyaraja
Perumal has a face resembling golden hue.
The emerald pendent on his chest, beams out
light resembling lightening. He appeared to be
a  scholar chanting Veda. Looks like he belongs
to the heavenly abode. He cast his eyes on me
on my youthful body and his eyes ran all over
my body. He was very beautiful. I am scared
of the looks on my mother’s face and not sure
if she had captured these moments of The Lords
eyes were on my youth"

Here is a presentation on Mangalasasanam to
Lord of Thiru Naagai through Thirumangai
Azhwar's Peria Thirumozhi pasuram
"பொன்னிர் மேனி மரக தத்தின்
பொங்கிளஞ் சோதி".
