Divya Desa Mangalasasanam Thirukaviththalam- DD009 Thirumazhisai Azhwar Naanmugan Thiruvandhadhi 2431 (5.10)

Divya Desa Mangalasasanam
Thirukaviththalam- DD009
Thirumangai Azhwar Naanmugan Thiruvandhadhi 2431 (5.10)

Azhwars have done Mangalasasanam for some Divya Desams very elaborately. For example all 11 Azhwars have sung in praise of Srirangam( Divya Desam 1), Ten Azhwars have sung in praise of Thiruvengadam ( Divya Desam 75) and Thiruparkadal ( Divya Desam 107). Managasasanam to as many as 67 Divydesams  was done by one of the eleven Azhwars only

Mangalasasanam depending on how elaborate it is, covered the one or more of following aspects

  • Name of Divya desam directly or in a subtle way
  • Name of Emperuman directly or in a subtle way
  • Manobhavam of Azhwar who composed the pasuram
  • References to events , Leelas in Vibhava Avatars
  • References to Para, Vyuha and Antharyami forms of Sriman Narayana
  • References to 26 Thatwams ( Paramatma, Jeevatma, Moola Prakruthi, Mahaan, Ahankaaram, Manasu, Kaalam Five each of elements, attributes,  Indriyas and Senses)
  • Divya Desa Vimana, Pushkarini etc
  • Natural beauty of the Divya desam surroundings
The pasuram presented below is by Thirumazhsai Azhwar. Thirumazhisai Azhwar is an amasam  of Sudharsan, the discus that Lord Sriman Narayana wields.  Thiumazhisai Azhwar had the grace of Lord Sriman Narayana and he was rescued twice. He was born to Bhargava maharishi and his wife Kanakangi and was a lifeless lump of flesh with no arms and legs. Lord Sriman Narayana came with his consort and gave him a beautiful body and was blessed with an eye on right leg.

Later in his life Thirumazhisai Azhwar studied Buddhism, Jainism and other literature and started following Saivism. Lord Sriman Narayana used Peyazhwar to get Thirumazhisai Azhwar initiated into Vaishnavism . Thirumazhisai Azhwar then focused on Anthayyamithawam form Lord Sriman Narayana. He had composed two Prabhandhams namely Thiruchandaviruththam and Nanmugan Thiruvandhadhi.

 In this Peria Thirumozhi pasuram
"கூற்றமும் சாரா கொடுவினையும் சாரா", Thirumazhisai Azhwar performs Mangalasasanam to
the Lord of Thirukavithalam. Thirumazhisai Azhwar says
that he is aware of the means of getting protection from
fear of death, fearful sins and bad association as well as
thoughts.

Lord Sriman Narayana who rests on the milky ocean is
also resting on Adhisesesha as bed in Thirukavithalam
on banks of river Kaaveri and the same river bank Kanna
Perumon resides in his heart too and giving him the energy
and and the means to protect himself from fear of death,
fearful sins and bad association as well as thoughts.

Here is a presentation on Thirumazhisai Azhwar's Mangalasaanam  to Lord of Thirukavithalam through "கூற்றமும் சாரா கொடுவினையும் சாரா"  Nanmugan Thiruvandhadhi Pasuram
