Divya Desa Mangalasasanam Thirukkannangudi - DD020 Thirumangai Azhwar Peria Thirumozhi 1748(9.1.1)

Divya Desa Mangalasasanam
Thirukkannangudi - DD020
Thirumangai Azhwar Peria Thirumozhi 1748(9.1.1)

Azhwars have done Mangalasasanam for some Divya Desams very elaborately. For example all 11 Azhwars have sung in praise of Srirangam( Divya Desam 1), Ten Azhwars have sung in praise of Thiruvengadam ( Divya Desam 75) and Thiruparkadal ( Divya Desam 107). Managasasanam to as many as 67 Divydesams  was done by one of the eleven Azhwars only

Mangalasasanam depending on how elaborate it is, covered the one or more of following aspects

  • Name of Divya desam directly or in a subtle way
  • Name of Emperuman directly or in a subtle way
  • Manobhavam of Azhwar who composed the pasuram
  • References to events , Leelas in Vibhava Avatars
  • References to Para, Vyuha and Antharyami forms of Sriman Narayana
  • References to 26 Thatwams ( Paramatma, Jeevatma, Moola Prakruthi, Mahaan, Ahankaaram, Manasu, Kaalam Five each of elements, attributes,  Indriyas and Senses)
  • Divya Desa Vimana, Pushkarini etc
  • Natural beauty of the Divya desam surroundings
The pasuram presented below by Thirumangai Azhwar (Parakalan)  is  the Sarngam (bow) amsam of Srimana Narayana. He holds the distinction of having sung the most number of pasurams than the rest of the Azhwars. Also Thirumangai Azhwar has performed Mangalasasanam at 86 Divya Desams, the maximum by any Azhwar.

In this Peria Thirumozhi Pasuram "வங்கமா முந்நீர் வரிநிறப் பெரிய வாளர வினணை மேவி,   " , Thirumangai Azhwar performs Mangalasasanam to the Lord of Thirukkannagudi as well pays tribute to the learned devotees of Thirukkannagudi engaged in the services to the Lord of Thirukkannangudi. Thirumangai Azhwar says " Lord Sriman Narayana who is resting on the shining Adhisesaha with bright stripes, in the milky ocean, has also taken up Archavatar at Thirukkannapuram Divya Desam, which is well served by learned Brahmins,  well versed in six angas of Vedam namely Seeksha, Vyaakarna, Chandas, Niruktham, Jyothisham and Kalpam, Four Vedas namely Rig, Yajur, Sama and Atharvana, Five Yagnas  namely Bhramma, Deva, Bhootha, Pithru and Manushya , and Literature off-shoot of Vedams. These Brahmins are steady in their devotion to Lord of Thirukkanangudi."

Here is a presentation on Mangalasasanam to Lord of        Thirukkannangudi through Thirumangai Azhwar's Peria Thirumozhi pasuram  "வங்கமா முந்நீர் வரிநிறப் பெரிய வாளர வினணை மேவி,  "
