Divya Desa Managalasasanam Thirukudanthai - DD012 Andal Nachiyar Thirumozhi (628) 13.2

Divya Desa Managalasasanam
Thirukudanthai - DD012
Andal Nachiyar Thirumozhi (628)  13.2

Azhwars have done Managalasasanam for some Divya Desams very elaborately. For example all 11 Azhwars have sung in praise of Srirangam( Divya Desam 1), Ten Azhwars have sung in praise of Thiruvengadam ( Divya Desam 75) and Thiruparkadal ( Divya Desam 107). Managasasanam to as many as 67 Divydesams  was done by one of the eleven Azhwars only.

Mangalasasanam depending on how elaborate it is, covered the one or more of following aspects

  • 1      Name of Divya desam directly or in a subtle way

  • 2      Name of Emperuman directly or in a subtle way

  • 3     Manobhavam of Azhwar who composed the pasuram

  • 4      References to events , Leelas in Vibhava Avatars

  • 5     References to Para, Vyuha and Antharyami forms                    of  Sriman Narayana

  • 6      References to 26 Thatwams ( Paramatma, Jeevatma,               Moola Prakruthi, Mahaan, Ahankaaram, Manasu, Kaalam     Five each of elements, attributes,  Indriyas and Senses)

  • 7      Divya Desa Vimana, Pushkarini etc

  • 8      Natural beauty of the Divya desam surroundings

The pasuram presented below is by Andal also known as Soodikoduththa Nachiyar. Andal was divine gifted daughter of  Periazhwar who brought her up in Bakthi claden environment. He was narrating the entire Bala Leelas of Krishna. Kothai was fully immersed in Lord Krishna and her bakthi to the Lord had so much depth that Kothai brought the Lord under control with her bakthi. Periazhwar had a Nanadavanam of his own and used to offer a variety of flowers every day as mala, which Andal used it on herself first before offering it to the Lord. Andal composed Thiruppavai and Nachiyar Thirumozhi bakthi laden pasurams on Lord Krishna.

In this Nachiyar Thiumozhi pasuram " பாலா லிலையில் துயில்கொண்ட பரமன் வலைப்பட் டிருந்தேனை " , Andal  performs mangalasasanam to the Lord of Thirukudanthai. Andal mentions that the Lord who was sleeping on fig leaf after having gulped the all the worlds, the Lord who as cowheard boy managed the grazing of cows with a grazing staff, the Lord who danced on the pots for stealing butter is the same lord who is also resting on serpent bed in Thirukudanthai

Andal goes on to say that she has fallen in to the trap of Lord Krishna's charms and got herself bound to him and there is no way to backtrack from that relationship. So she tells her maid friends not to expect her to break the relationship with Lord Krishna and torture her with words that pierce like spear.  On the contrary requests them to get the Thulasi garland worn by the Lord and put it on her lovely hair.

Here is a presentaion on Andal's Managalasaanam  to Lord Sarangapani of Thirukudanthai Divya Desam through "பாலா லிலையில் துயில்கொண்ட பரமன் வலைப்பட் டிருந்தேனை " Pasuram
